Albert John Franz Sr "Hollywood"
May 28, 1930 to September 20, 2009
Mentor, Family Man, Friend
Al was of German descent and he grew up here in San Antonio, Texas. His education was not extensive. He completed high school and graduated from Central Catholic located in downtown San Antonio. Al loved flying and he was an aircraft mechanic working at San Antonio Airport when he met his lifelong companion, Dee. It was at this time that he acquired his nickname "Hollywood" from fellow mechanics. Shortly after the birth of his son, Al sold his Cessna and pursued a job in sales. He drove a MAC Tool truck and sold his wares locally until he found his true calling in October of 1970.
Al Franz Fence Co. was born from a partnership built from a man who believed that an exceptional product was derived from quality materials and good old fashioned hard work. All of his sales were sealed with a verbal nod and a handshake. Al was a personable man, customers and suppliers alike were drawn to his direct approach and charismatic personality. Al had a huge heart. He was the type of man who would give you the shirt off his back more than once, but he expected it back in return. Although the Company lost Al in 2009, his vision continues through his namesake, Al Franz Jr. His children strive to keep his dream alive.
